Carl William Weinkauf

Carl Weinkauf has spent 40 years practicing law in Texas. In that time he has seen most of the ways a business deal can go wrong, and he has learned how to fix many of them. His practice focuses on commercial litigation and business collections. He is especially experienced in the part of a case that many lawyers treat as an afterthought: actually getting the client paid.

Weinkauf started out representing banks and corporations in commercial disputes and post-judgment proceedings, and he has been pursuing judgment debtors ever since. His clients appreciate his persistence, and their debtors understandably do not. He handles matters from pre-suit negotiation through judgment and enforcement, including garnishments, turnover proceedings, and debtors who have been creative about where their assets end up. He has also been in-house general counsel and has run his own firm, so he knows that for a business owner a lawsuit is a line item, not a hobby. He advises clients with that in mind, including how to tighten their contracts and receivables practices increase collections and avoid disputes. He has drafted a many contracts, a skill sharpened by years of litigating poorly drafted ones.

Weinkauf earned his law degree from SMU and studied English literature and film at Carleton College. Outside the office, he serves on the board of Elevate Dallas, co-founded Crosswater Ministries, which provides humanitarian aid in Cuba, and is founder of The Supper Club, which seeks to battle the loneliness epidemic by bringing generations together over dinner. Before law school, Carl worked as a street musician, goat herder, haberdasher, and greens keeper, all of which were excellent preparation for a career in litigation.
